COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course objectives

Through laboratory and field classes introduce students to the importance of recycling plastics and how recycling affects the properties of the polymer.

Course enrolment requirements and entry competences required for the course

Enrolled in or passed the cours Polymers and the Environment

Learning outcomes expected at the level of the course (4 to 10 learning outcomes)

After passing the exam, the student is expected to be able to:
- sort mixed polymer waste
- identify the components of polymer waste
- determine the effect of multiple recovery on the properties of polymers
- explain the complexity of the process of recovery of the polymer
- write a report

Course content broken down in detail by weekly class schedule (syllabus)

Exercise 1. Identification of polymers: primary tests, infrared spectroscopy.
Exercise 2. Influence of aging on properties of polymers.
Exercise 3. Sorting of plastic waste.
Exercise 4. Influence of multiple recycling on the thermal properties of polymers.
Field work: Visit to factories AD Plastik Inc. Solin, Fornix Ltd., Dugi Rat, GUMIIMPEX Inc., Varaždin
